Building the co-living future we want and need

When: Approx. 10am - 7pm on both Sat and Sun

Where: The Fold @ 3359 26th St, San Francisco, CA 94110

Who: 150-200 people

With hundreds of community houses in the SF Bay Area, and many more beyond, there is so much collective wisdom within our communal living ecosystem. But it can be difficult to harness that powerful experience and stand on each other’s shoulders without ways to gather and share learnings.

Join us for a 2-day conference with three parallel sessions, interactive activities, art, reflection, connection, refreshments and meal(s) where we aim to change that.

Day 1: Saturday (10/25)

  • Panel: Living with Kids

    Stories, advice, and questions about coparenting in community.

  • Panel: How to Start a Friend-Compound

    Case studies and discussion on how to create coliving with multiple independent houses sharing borders.

  • Lightning Talks: House Organizational Systems

    Three short talks on: supporting neurodivergence in coliving, supporting chores through technology, and obviating chores through social support.

  • Small working groups self-organized to further explore topics of interest to participants.

  • Workshop: Integrative Approaches to Conflict Resolution

    Practical workshop on negotiation and mediation skills that might be useful in a communal living situation, focusing on "integrative negotiation".

  • Presentation: How to Change Your City’s Laws

    Discussion of recent legislative initiatives in Oakland and Berkeley around plural domestic partnerships and family structure discrimination, and strategies for local advocacy.

  • Workshop: Strategies for Effective Governance and Decision Making

    Interactive workshop covering common decision making structures, including rules-of-order, with exercises to practice and test application.

  • Small groups heading to nearby communities to meet local members, explore new spaces, and socialize with other participants.
